Orexis: Relative Safety of Herbal Ingredients
Consumers should be aware, before considering the relative safety of this supplement, that it appears to have been discontinued by Urban Nutrition as of the date of this article. Furthermore, buyers should avoid purchasing Orexis or any other supplement from a third party, as some vendors sell free samples which were once offered by the manufacturer. Affiliate websites may also offer payment options without the ability to deliver the product. The vendor of Orexis should be contacted before payment is made, as Orexis scams are common.
Heart Concerns
Because this product appears to be no longer supported by its manufacturer, the safety of the product itself is drawn into question. Most safety concerns with herbal supplements like Orexis are related to the side-effects of energy enhancing herbs. These herbs increase heart-rate which may be mistaken for arousal. Although an increased heart-rate is associated with arousal, it is not a cause for arousal and has dangerous implications for those with heart conditions.
Because arousal is often confused with heightened energy caused by a stimulant, Orexis claims to offer effects within 45 minutes. The blurred line between energy and arousal leads many consumers to believe that they are experiencing positive sexual side effects. If the consumer believes that these are the desired effects, than the product may in fact be providing satisfaction.
Anxiety
Yohimbe is reported to be a main ingredient for Orexis, and is commonly sold as a fat-reducer. This herb is “psychoactive,” and affects both perception and the function of the brain. In fact, Yohimbe is used in the production of several prescription drugs, which speaks to the effectiveness of the herb itself. However, because of these direct effects on the mind, this is also the most dangerous ingredient. Yohimbe has been shown to increase anxiety in many clinical trials. This is a safety concern for those who already suffer from anxiety, or other nervous conditions.
Seizures have also been associated with the ingestion of Yohimbe, as well as kidney and liver problems. The consequences of these side-effects are extremely serious for those with psychological conditions, heart or liver problems.
Because of the cirulatory and psychological effects of Orexis ingredients, the claims of the product should be weighed carefully against the claimed effects which are not supported by scientific evidence. Although these herbs are argued to be aphrodisiacs, there is no evidence to suggest that they enhance the sexual experience, increase the function of sexual organs, or deliver a greater control over orgasm, as the manufacturer of Orexis claims.
